Animal Health and Wellness was opened in 2007 as a small animal hospital. Today we are continuing to grow as small animal practice that shares a passion for exotics and other small animal species. Dr. Bierd has a love for her patients that extends well beyond dogs and cats. It is, and always has been, our goal to provide the highest quality care for you and your pet. We provide all services; including wellness and sick visits, dental cleanings, surgeries, digital radiology, in house laboratory and boarding services. Dr. Bierds and her staff look forward to meeting new patients!

Dr. Larisa Bierds

DVM

Dr. Larisa Bierds has been with Animal Health and Wellness since its opening in June 2007. Born and raised in Western Kentucky, she returned home after graduating from Auburn University and has continued to plant deep roots in the area. While Dr. Bierds' experience is predominantly dogs and cats, she has examined and treated several other species such as rabbits, ferrets, rats, and even some reptiles and birds. She has particular interests in dermatology, preventative medicine, surgery and heartworm disease. Dr. Bierds enjoys hiking with her husband, Sam, and dog, Frank. She also has two cats, Archie and Alice. When not on the trail she also enjoys gardening when weather and work permit, as well as attending church where she sometimes makes a joyful noise singing and playing piano with her family.

EDUCATION

Graduated from Auburn University; DVM May 2007, Murray State University; BSA May 2003. Special interests: Canine and feline heartworm disease DermatologySurgery

Kasey

LVT

Kasey has been a Licensed Veterinary Technologist with Animal Health and Wellness since graduating in 2008. She currently lives in Murray with her feline family, as we could call her "the crazy cat lady". Kasey brings a great passion to any pet in need, and has a strong love for any furry feline.

EDUCATION

Graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor's in Science of Agriculture, emphasis in Animal Health Technology, in December 2008. Became a Licensed Veterinary Technologist in March 2009.

Shelby

Receptionist

Shelby has been with Animal Health and Wellness since 2021, and currently works as a client coordinator. Pictured above is her dog, Athena. When not at work Shelby enjoys shopping, hunting, fishing, traveling to new places, and being on the lake with her family.

EDUCATION

Graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Veterinary Technology in 2021.

Kim

Veterinary Technologist

Kim has always had a passion for working with animals, and she takes a special interest in exotics. In her spare time she enjoys going to farmers markets and fostering for the humane society. Kim currently lives in Murray with her partner and their 3 cats: Leo, Oscar, and Toby, dog: Olive, and snake: Mushu.

Graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Veterinary Technology in 2023.
